       Important Reminders from Principal Bass

SECURITY

Please remind your students that all students must enter the school through the front entrance or the auditorium in the mornings. Students should not go straight to the Learning Cottages, even if they have class there first period.

During the remainder of the school day, all students must enter through the front doors of the school. No one should be letting students in through any other doors. Please do not open a door to let a student or anyone else into the building. Please tell them they must enter through the front entrance of the school. This minor inconvenience is for the safety and security of all students, faculty, and staff.

PARKING

Seniors: Park only in the numbered space assigned to you if your name was drawn in the parking lottery. Campus security officers regularly patrol the parking lots and will issue consequences to students parked in any space to which they have not been assigned. Make sure your hang tag is visible.

Freshmen, sophomores, juniors: You are not allowed to park anywhere on the Dunwoody High School campus. You may park on the streets (first-come, first-served) as long as you are not blocking a driveway. There are lines drawn in front of the school and on other streets where you can park. You may also park at St. Luke’s Church at Mt. Vernon and Vermack Roads if you have paid the fee to park there. See Coach Hill or Ms. Curry in the Discipline Office on the 1100 hall with any questions.

Lastly, and very importantly, do not park at any time at Vanderlyn Elementary School. The parking lot is reserved for teachers who work there and parents of children who attend there. The cars that are supposed to park there are clearly marked, so it will be easy to spot a car out of place. Be aware that if you park there, you will be towed—no exceptions. This will be your only warning.

HOMECOMING FESTIVITIES!

We are excited for a wonderful Homecoming Week beginning Monday, 9/15. We are aptly naming it “Holly D Wood!” The week will be filled with fun dress-up days, wacky spirit games, our traditional annual parade on Thursday, a pep rally and game on Friday, and the Homecoming Dance on Saturday night from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. in our gym.

Please impress upon your student the absolute expectation to avoid getting involved in any act of destructive behavior toward any neighborhood, student, or family. The Dunwoody Police Department is on alert and will arrest students who are trespassing or defacing private property.

If these actions lead to a school disturbance, consequences will be served. Instead, let’s make the 2025 Homecoming the best in our 54-year history!

                            Volleyball Updates

DHS Freshman Volleyball Secures Two Wins in Busy Week

The DHS Freshman Volleyball Team opened the week with a three-set win over Milton on Monday night. On Wednesday, they came up short against Brookwood, but closed out strong with a two-set victory over Druid Hills.

JV Lady Wildcats Volleyball

The JV Lady Wildcats Volleyball Team had an impressive week with back-to-back tri-matches. On Monday night at Mount Bethel Christian Academy, they opened with a quick two-set victory over The Galloway School, then battled Mt. Bethel—winning the first set 25-23, dropping the second 20-25, and bouncing back for a decisive 15-11 finish. On Wednesday night at Providence Christian Academy, the Wildcats edged out Walker High School in a thrilling 2-1 match before cruising past Providence in straight sets, 25-14 and 25-11. Way to pull four big wins, Lady Wildcats!

Another Awesome Action-Packed Week of Softball!

Dunwoody softball won all five games this past week, bringing the Varsity team to 10-3 on the season and the JV team to an equally impressive 5-0, with about half the season to go.

Varsity’s most notable win was against Chamblee (the Wildcat’s first W since 2020!) Brooke Parkes set the tone with 3 hits from the leadoff spot, Alyssa Rosenkoff went the distance in the circle, pitching all 7 innings, and Izzy Iconis dazzled with her skills behind the plate as she threw out 2 runners and sparked a double play with Vivian Curry.

Versus the region foes, Lakeside, Alyssa Rosenkoff showed she’s more than just a lights-out pitcher as she went 3 for 3 at the plate. Kristina Conn and Allie Sleep contributed to the 17-3 win 4 and 3 RBIs, respectively.

Against Shiloh, Lauren Dowhower and Allie Sleep each got 3 hits and combined to drive in 8 RBIs in the 17-4 victory.

In the final game of the exhausting week, Dunwoody outshone Lovett behind the power of Kaz McLoughlin, who drove in 4 runs, and Ainslie Worley, who had 3 RBIs. Ainslie also lit it up defensively, striking out 10 batters. Sienna Rembelos supported Ainslie with strong plays in the outfield, including one jaw-dropping catch.

JV also put the crush on Chamblee with their 10-3 win. It was another dominant team effort, with 7 different players driving in runs and no errors in the field. In a noteworthy mention, Tenley Marks wowed everyone with her speed as she stole an insane 6 bases! The future is looking bright for Dunwoody!

DHS Food and Basic Needs Pantry

It is tough out there people. Many of us are blessed, and so many others are struggling. A DHS student, with the help school counselors and social workers, set up a food & basic needs pantry at Dunwoody High School to help those suffering from food insecurity in our area. This pantry is open to elementary, middle and high school age kids.  School counselors or social workers at local schools ensure that families in the area are connected if needed. Unfortunately, the number of families living in hotels is increasing daily. Families are having to choose food or a roof over their head.

If you can help, please consider purchasing items from the wish list. This list includes shelf stable foods, personal care items, snacks, and daily basics.

Thank you for your generous hearts!
